Abstract

Stunting is a condition of failure to grow in children due to chronic malnutrition that has an impact on physical and cognitive health. To understand the factors that contribute to the occurrence stunting, indicators are needed that cover various aspects such as health, access to sanitation, education, and socioeconomic status. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the incidence stunting in East Java in 2021 using the Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The PCA method is applied to reduce data consisting of many interrelated variables into smaller main components while retaining the main information from the original data. This study uses 9 variables with a total of 38 data that affect the stunting in East Java in 2021. Secondary data was obtained from the Central Statistics Agency of East Java Province. After analysis, it was found that the main variables that affected stunting It can be explained through two main factors that account for 69.488% of the total variance. The first factor includes public welfare and health, which includes sanitation, immunization, health index, education index, and economic variables. The second factor is basic health and access to sanitation, which includes breastfeeding and access to decent drinking water. These results are expected to be the basis for policymakers in determining more effective interventions to reduce stunting rates in East Java.
