Factor Analysis on Variables Related to The Human Development Index Using Principal Component Analysis in East Java in 2022

Abstrak

Human development is very important in supporting the welfare and progress of a region. Through development, the government and policy makers strive to create conditions that allow people to live long, healthy, and productive lives. One of the indicators used to assess the success of development is the Human Development Index (HDI), which includes the dimensions of health, education, and living standards. Based on previous research, there are several variables that have an influence on the HDI of a region. Therefore, this study uses the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method and factor analysis to identify the main components that affect HDI in East Java. The data used in this study is secondary data taken from the Central Statistics Agency with a total of 38 observations according to districts/cities in East Java in 2022. The research variables include RLS, HLS, AHH, population density, health index, education index, and health facilities. The analysis begins with a description of the data characteristics, a multivariate assumption test, and a data sufficiency test before applying PCA and factor analysis. The results showed that the variables of population density and health facilities were found to have high variation, while other variables had lower variations. The data meets the assumptions, is sufficient to be factored in, and analyzed further. There are two main components formed, namely the Social Welfare and Quality of Life Indicators and the Health Support Facility Indicators, which summarize all research variables significantly. These two new factors are expected to provide insight for local governments in determining development policy priorities and welfare programs.
